Dear Divine Mercy Family,
Together, we have made great strides with the Divine Mercy Campaign. Details of that progress are listed below. We are proud of this progress but also understand the reality that we have some goals to reach before the highest priority projects can be completed. The priority projects are mostly at a halt right now until we are able to bring in the funds to complete them.
As always, we need to make sure we maintain our operating budget so we encourage you to support the Divine Mercy Center first with the current Year-end Appeal. The Year-end Appeal is one of the two major fundraisers that support the beautiful work of this mission. Click here for the Year-end Appeal letter and details. Secondly, we also implore you to make an extra, special one-time gift to our Campaign as you are able. Campaign Project gifts are indeed an important blessing and generally more appealing than a Consumers Energy bill per say, however, we humbly ask you to help us keep our doors open and our lights on before making a contribution to the Divine Mercy Campaign. Both are important and both need your help. Please prayerfully discern where and how you are able to help.
Here are the project updates and details for the Divine Mercy Campaign:
Altar Renovations: We have made great progress with the Altar Renovations! Last year the new altar was created and installed along with the new ambo; the chairs for the celebrants were purchased and stained; and candles were purchased for the altar. This year lighting was installed throughout the Oratory, and the first stages of the baldacchino above the altar were painted. Work is now underway for the Our Lady of Sorrows stained glass window, and the images for the canvas paintings of St. Thérèse and the life-size painting of St. Faustina for their shrines in the Oratory have been selected. To date we have raised a total of $7,086 for this project. We have spent $3,685.90 on the items completed to date, leaving us with a balance of $3,400.10 in the altar fund. The remaining balance on the Our Lady of Sorrows stained glass window is $3,500 and we are in the process of costing out the canvas paintings of St. Thérèse and the life-size painting of St. Faustina. Kitchen Renovation: The kitchen design provided by the architect has been approved by the Board of Directors and the general contractor is now bidding the work out to construction contractors. The initial rough estimate for the kitchen renovation is $75,000. Upon receiving the bids in the upcoming weeks we will have a more accurate cost. To date we have raised $28,829.14 for this project and have spent $1,956.18 on the architect, plan fees, etc. This project is tremendously important because our existing facilities are not sufficient to efficiently and effectively provide our daily Lunch Ministry services and food outreach boxes or to serve the attendees at our events. The critical appliances such as the stove and refrigerator/freezer are undersized and aged to the extent that they do not work properly and often break down. In addition, the current layout and available space of the cabinetry and countertops are not conducive to the quick and efficient preparation and service of food needed to properly execute our Lunch Ministry and special events. Due to these circumstances, we are unable to meet the Health Department requirements and our Kitchen Outreach Ministry is at a halt until the kitchen is renovated. As the Thanksgiving and Christmas season approaches, this is particularly heart-wrenching because without the renovations we will be unable to serve the families in need with their turkey and ham holiday dinners. Without the daily lunches and our Kitchen Outreach Ministry for the community, the hospitable heart of our ministry has stopped beating. We encourage you to share this news with your family and friends and help get the kitchen renovations underway. We need to raise $48,127.04 more (depending on the estimates that come in from the contractors over the next few weeks) to make this project a reality. Our Lady of Sorrows Rosary Garden: To date we have completed the majority of the concrete work for the Our Lady of Sorrows Rosary Garden, and the benches are in the process of construction. The large Pieta statue and the teardrop stations that were purchased previously are stored away safely until the time comes to place them in the garden. The next steps are to purchase the materials to build the pergola that will be erected over the Pieta statue, install the irrigation and electrical systems, and begin work on the station signs. Once this is completed, final instillation of the benches, signs, pergola, Pieta statue and landscaping will take place. The $23,379.67 that has been fundraised so far for this project was just enough to cover the work that has been completed to this point. Additional funding is needed before we will be able to continue working on this project. The Our Lady of Sorrows Rosary Garden had an initial cost estimate of $75,000. Thanks to the generosity of volunteers contributing their time, expertise and equipment we have been able to drastically reduce the cost of this project. Outdoor Stations of the Cross: Plans are underway for the Outdoor Stations of the Cross. Artist and Vice President of our Board of Directors, Kurt Klein, continues his work on the labor intensive full-size sculpture of the Christ figure that will be on the crucifix installed at the Stations of the Cross entrance. Construction of the pergolas, plans for the walkways and the design of an archway over the entrance to the garden are a few of the next steps. Previous work includes tree removal and also Ralph Ziolkowski, a Prayer Minister and member of the Men’s Ministry, has already completed construction on all of the Station plaques. To date we have raised a total of $8,900 for this project. We have spent $1538.09 on the items completed to date, leaving us with a balance of $7,361.91 in the Stations of the Cross fund. Two-Way Radios for Event Communications: We recently received a donation of $257.50 toward the two-way radios for event communications! We will be looking into purchasing the radios in the near future.
Baby Changing Stations: Praise God! We recently received a donation of $525 for the baby changing stations! We will coordinate the purchase and installation in the near future.
Outdoor Signs: Designs for an Outdoor Sign were created recently by volunteer Lisa Zammit and sent to print. Thank you to a generous benefactor for contributing $500.00 to cover the cost of this project! The total cost of one outdoor sign is $692. We need an additional $192 to complete this project.
