3:00 appointment: The Hour of Great Mercy

Divine Mercy Sunday 2014 113

3:00 p.m., the Hour of Great Mercy, is the time Jesus asks us to pray to Him daily, even “if only for a very brief instant.’’ How often do you remember this appointment?

Who do you know who needs the graces promised by 3:00 prayers?

We try to help you remember the 3:00 p.m. hour. The Servants of Jesus of The Divine Mercy will help you remember the Hour of Great Mercy. Our religious communities and volunteers pray for these intentions daily.

The importance of honoring Jesus at 3:00 p.m. is why we are sending this – and future communications – at 3 p.m., a written reminder.

3:00 p.m., “Hour of Great Mercy”

Jesus told Saint Faustina: “At 3:00, implore My mercy, especially for sinners; and, if only for a brief moment, immerse yourself in My Passion, particularly in My abandonment at the moment of agony. This is the hour of great mercy.”

“In this hour I will refuse nothing to the soul that makes a request of Me in virtue of My Passion.’’ (Diary, 1320).

The ideal – and what works

The Servants of Jesus of The Divine Mercy take time each day to do exactly what Jesus said we should ideally do (if we have time) during the 3:00 p.m. hour — make the Stations of the Cross.

An instant of prayer “where you happen to be” will save sinners

Jesus recognizes the duties of work and life and told St. Faustina that if she had work assignments, venerating His Passion for even “a brief moment’’ during the 3:00 hour would help save sinners.

“Try your best to make the Stations of the Cross in this hour, provided that your duties permit it; and if you are not able to make the

Stations of the Cross, then at least step into the chapel for a moment and adore, in the Most Blessed Sacrament, My Heart, which is full of mercy: and should you be unable to step into chapel, immerse yourself in prayer there where you happen to be, if only for a very brief instant.’’ (Diary 1572)

“Obtain everything… for the asking’’

As we know, Christ died on the cross at 3 p.m. He stresses at this hour, “you can obtain everything for yourself and for others for the asking.’’

“As often as you hear the clock strike the third hour immerse yourself completely in My mercy, adoring and glorifying it, invoke it’s omnipotence for the whole world, and particularly for poor sinners, for at that moment mercy was opened wide for every soul.”

“In this hour you can obtain everything for yourself and for others for the asking; it was the hour of grace for the whole world – mercy triumphed over justice.’’ (Diary, 1572)

Helping neighbors serves God

“Whatever you do for your neighbor, you do for Me,’’ Jesus said. (Diary, 1,029)

Your mission

Jesus told Saint Faustina: “Give Me souls, My daughter. Give Me souls. Know that it is your mission to win souls for Me by prayer and sacrifice, and by encouraging them to trust in My mercy.” (Diary, 1690).
